The Little Red Hen
The Little Red Hen was going to the field to work,
She carried her basket on her back,
And she seemed so happy and so free.
The Sun shone bright and the birds sang sweetly,
The flowers were red and the grass was green,
And the Little Red Hen went to work.
“Hey, Little Red Hen,” cried the Pig,
“Where are you going with that basket?
Will you take me with you?”
“No, I’m going to work, I’m not playing,”
The Little Red Hen answered,
“You stay at home and have your fun.”
“Hey, Little Red Hen,” cried the Duck,
“Where are you going with that basket?
Will you take me with you?”
“No, I’m going to work, I’m not playing,”
The Little Red Hen answered,
“You stay on the pond and have your fun.”
“Hey, Little Red Hen,” cried the Turkey,
“Where are you going with that basket?
Will you take me with you?”
“No, I’m going to work, I’m not playing,”
The Little Red Hen answered,
“You stay in the yard and have your fun.”
The Little Red Hen went to the field,
And she sowed the seed in the furrows,
And she was so busy and so happy.
When the seed was all in the ground,
The Little Red Hen said, “I’m tired,
I’ll rest a while and then I’ll come back.”
So she sat down on a stone,
And she put her hands in her pocket,
And she felt so comfortable and so happy.
“Hey, Little Red Hen,” cried the Pig,
“What are you doing?
The work is finished, let’s go and get it.”
“No, I’m resting, I’m not working,”
The Little Red Hen answered,
“You go and get it yourself.”
“Hey, Little Red Hen,” cried the Duck,
“What are you doing?
The work is finished, let’s go and get it.”
“No, I’m resting, I’m not working,”
The Little Red Hen answered,
“You go and get it yourself.”
“Hey, Little Red Hen,” cried the Turkey,
“What are you doing?

The Little Red Hen answered,

The Pig, the Duck, and the Turkey went to the field,
And they worked so hard and so well,
And they were so proud of their work.
When the Little Red Hen came back,
She saw the seed had grown,
And she was so happy and so surprised.
“I’m so glad I rested,” she said,
“I’m so glad I took a nap,
Because I didn’t have to do the work,
And yet I have a good crop to share.”
