The Old Cat
An old woman had a cat. The cat was very old； she could not run quickly， and she could not bite， because she was so old. One day the old cat saw a mouse； she jumped and caught it， but she could not bite it； so the mouse got away from her. She thought， “I must eat something today.” She came to the house and smelt the cooking. She jumped up into the room. There was a nice piece of bread on the table. The old cat was决定d to eat the bread：
“Meow. Meow.”
There was a little girl in the house. She said， “What are you saying， old cat? I don’t like you， you are so old.”
The cat said， “I don’t want to eat you， little girl. I want to eat that piece of bread on the table.”
So the little girl gave her mother a hint. The mother came， took the bread away from the cat， and gave it to the little girl to eat.
The old cat went away. She thought， “I will not work. I will find a way to catch a mouse. I am too old to work now.”
She saw a mouse hole in a corner and went in. She could not get out. Now the cat knew she was in trouble. She shouted， “Help! Help! The mouse has me.”
The little girls came and pulled the cat out. The cat said， “I will not work. I will find a way to catch a mouse. I am too old to work now.”
The little girl said， “You are not too old to work. You can work. You can catch a mouse. Because you are a cat.”
The cat thought， “Yes， I can. I will show them that I am still a good cat.” So she went to catch a mouse again.
